Date Tasted: 9/2020

In the official classification of 1855 for Sauternes and Barsac, Château d’Yquem rated so highly that it was given its own individual rank: 'Premier Cru Superieur'. The Château has 400 years of history, and it has spread its reputation all over the world. The wines sold at higher prices and are desirable from all wine lovers is not by chance. The yields are so low that a vine gives a glass of wine. Also, the noble rot on the grapes varies from year to year. So the Château is forced to not produce wine at all for some years.  Now it belongs to the LVMH group and continues to make outstanding wines. This wine spends 42 months in 100% new oak and is released 5 years after the vintage.

Appearance: The colour is deep golden.

Nose: High complexity of distinct aromas and the typical botrytis essence. Honeysuckle, apricot, mandarin peel, potpourri, candied fruits, honeycomb and mushrooms are some of them.

Palate: It is sweet and lush yet distinctive, with condensation and balance. It has high acidity, full body and an aftertaste that stays for a long time.

Drink or Hold: Enjoyable now but can stay in the cellar for more than 40 years.

Food Pairing: It is perfect with crème brûlée tart with melon gel on the bottom.
