Naoussa 2012, Foundi Estate

Naoussa 2012, Foundi Estate

Date Tasted: 10/2021

The new trends push the winemakers to produce wines with less oak, soft tannins and emphasising on fruit. But we must not stop appreciating some old school wines with distinctive character and high quality.

Appearance: It has a pale garnet colour.

Nose: It is a rustic but lovely version of Naoussa's Xinomavro with many tomato puree, red cherry and sour cherry. However, it needs airing to open up and release the aromas of mushroom and salted meat, together with a thick spice layer.

Palate: It is dry with high acidity and high Xinomavro-like tannins. However, the flavours still show the red fruit and spice character with intensity. It has a good balance with a medium length aftertaste.

Drink or Hold: It is ready to drink but far away from its best.

Food Pairing: Roast beef and slow-cooked beef versions are desirable.
