Erdener Prälat 2019, Dr. Hermann

Erdener Prälat 2019, Dr. Hermann

Date Tasted: 9/2022

Suppose Noah asked me to pick only one grape variety on the ark and rescue it from extinction. Without a second thought, Riesling would be my first choice! Yes, I am one of those who believe Riesling is the most fantastic white variety in the world. Wines from Riesling can vary from bone-dry, austere, mineral to lusciously sweet, complex, age-worthy monsters. All styles can produce amazing wines that you will remember for years.

Appearance: Deep golden colour.

Nose: A sweet bouquet of floral aromas is combined with peach, quince, pineapple and a nice mineral layer. It is intense and ripe.

Palate: It is off-dry and full-bodied with a slightly oily texture. The acidity is high and supports the delicate sweetness. The dense flavours create a balanced outcome with a core of perfectly ripe stone fruits surrounded by lemon tart and watermelon. The aftertaste is almost long and mouthwatering.

Drink: It is perfect.

Food Pairing: Sole Meunière.
