Santorini 2020, Mikra Thira

Santorini 2020, Mikra Thira

Date Tasted: 12/2022

The Mikra Thira winery will be the only winery located on the island of Thirasia across from Santorini. Thirasia was once a part of Santorini, but the volcano's eruption separated this piece of land. The founders of the Mikra Thira winery are two of the greatest figures in the modern history of Greek wine, Vangelis Gerovasileiou and Vassilis Tsartsalis, who, together with the third founding member, Ioanna Vamvakouri, aim to make Thirasia a wine destination and contribute even more to highlighting the Santorini vineyard.

Appearance: Medium lemon colour.

Nose: The lemon aroma is pronounced and enriched by white blossoms, flint, peach and saltiness. It is fantastic with depth and freshness.

Palate: It is medium-bodied with intense flavours of citrus, honeysuckle, grapefruit and minerality. Salty like the sea. The acidity is high yet very well integrated and tilts on Santorini's elegant side. The aftertaste is almost long and delicious.

Drink or Hold: It is excellent now and for the next 5 years.

Food Pairing: Fish in a salt crust.
