The Santorini 2019 from Anhydrous Winery is a refreshing and vibrant wine with a pronounced citrus character and a distinct minerality that reflects the unique terroir of Santorini island.

​​Mavrotragano is a dark-skinned grape grown mainly on the Cyclades islands, with some great examples from Santorini and Tinos. In recent years a few efforts occurred on the mainland with commercial success and helped Mavrotragano to find its place. However, although the variety has already gained a high-quality status, its full potential still needs to be discovered.

The founders of the Mikra Thira winery are two of the greatest figures in the modern history of Greek wine, Vangelis Gerovasileiou and Vassilis Tsartsalis, who, together with the third founding member, Ioanna Vamvakouri, aim to make Thirasia a wine destination and contribute even more to highlighting the Santorini vineyard.

Paris Sigalas is an emblematic figure of the Greek wine scene and Santorini's vineyard. He associates his name with some of the greatest Greek white wines.

It is austere initially and needs an hour in a carafe to show its true potential.

Once it opens up, it will hit you with tonnes of apricot, orange, grapefruit, flint, white pepper and jasmine.

It is very fine. It is complex and dressed in silk. A fantastic, pronounced chamomile aroma blows up your mind.

It is like you smell a summer breeze from the sea with intense iodine.

Santorini of Domaine Sigalas is always pointed out as the fresher and fruitier version on the island, yet highlighting the mineral signature.

Nykteri was Santorini's white fine wine in the past. The grapes were picked early in the morning before the heat made things complicated, and the grapes were pressed the same night when the temperature was more relaxed, and daylight could not cause oxidation problems.

Arguably, the white wines from Santorini and especially those are made from Assyrtiko start showing their true qualities after the third year of their life.

Karamolegos winery seems to be the most innovative on the island of Santorini, with their wines expressing the terroir in various ways. Pyritis is a genuinely authentic wine with minimal interventions by the winemaker and crystal purity into the glass.

Artemis Karamolegos winery handled Mandilaria in a sufficiently smart way. They crafted a pale wine with light tannins that even the aromas remind of Valpolicella. Another dimension of Mandilaria.

Cuvée Nykteri is the third in line wine of the Cuvée series of the Estate Argyros. Through this series, the Estate tries to point out a more concentrated and bold style Assyrtiko worth a certain ageing period before reaching its top.

Paris Sigalas was the first in Santorini who made an effort to vinify Mavrotragano separately and save the variety from obscurity. Since then, all the island's winemakers have added a Mavrotragano in their portfolio, but Mavrotragano Sigalas remains a reference point.

Paris Sigalas is an artisan winemaker. Each wine he crafts express Santirini's terroir and even micro-terroir perfectly. As a result, his wines are the most age-worthy on the island, and each one and all of them offers a unique wine experience.

It is a well made red wine from the island of Santorini, which has aged beautifully and delivers the volcanic terroir excellently.

Honestly, I did not expect it to be drinkable much more to be palatable.

Who said that an entry-level Santorini could not age, such as well as the premium ones? Well, I assure you that…. Is a huge misunderstanding.

Akra Chryssos is a lately new entry in Santorini's island terroir, not so as a vine grower as such a winemaker.
