Syrah 2008, Christos Kokkalis

Syrah 2008, Christos Kokkalis

Date Tasted: 10/2021

Not many Greek wines are privileged to belong to the pantheon of desirable worldwide wines with collectable value. The high quality has to have been proved through the years, the winemakers have to connect their names with achievements, and the storytelling behind the brand should inspire. Christos Kokkalis clicks to all the boxes.

Nose: It has a highly complex bouquet with ripe bramble and blueberry, a solid layer with spices like liquorice, cardamom, cumin and nutmeg, followed by charming tertiary aromas of leather, game and wet leaves.

Palate: It is magical on the mouth! The fine texture and the juicy tannins alongside an intense core of dark fruit and black pepper with the medium-plus acidity create an exceptional balance. The aftertaste is almost long and flavoured with long pepper and chocolate.

Drink: It probably runs its best drinkable period.

Food Pairing: A dry-aged medium-rare filet will match perfectly.
