Syrah 2015, Lacules Bay Vineyard

Syrah 2015, Lacules Bay Vineyard

Syrah 2015, Lacules Bay Vineyard

Date Tasted: 9/2020

There is a lot to say about this boutique winery located in Koroni, in Messenia, Greece. The remarkable wines and the unique combination of knowledge, experience, passion, and attention to detail are exceptional. In my opinion, Lacules Estate is the first red fine wine producer in Greece, not only in terms of how the wine tastes but also, most notably, the philosophy behind it. A philosophy that starts from the vineyard goes through winemaking, influences the barrel ageing and continues to the bottle and beyond. As Philip says (a wine consultant from Bordeaux), “Syrah is an iron fist in a velvet glove”... just like that.

Appearance: Deep ruby colour.

Nose: Intense and complex aromas with a core of ripe berries like redcurrant, raspberry, sour cherry and blackberry supported by tomato leaf, fig, liquorice and cloves.

Palate: It shows concentration, many layers of flavours where you can understand the barrel quality and careful use with high velvety tannins, medium to high acidity and a long, complex finish.

Drink or Hold: Enjoyable now but better rest it for a decade.

Food Pairing: It is perfect with roasted beef with eggplants, onions, herbs and tomato sauce.
