Chenin Blanc 2022, Joostenberg Estate

Date Tasted: 2/2023

Paarl wine region is one of the largest and most established wine regions in South Africa. It is located about 60 km northeast of Cape Town in the Western Cape province. The name Paarl comes from the Dutch word "Pearl" which is a reference to the large granite rock that dominates the town of Paarl and the surrounding area.

The Paarl wine region has a long history of winemaking, dating back to the 17th century when Dutch settlers brought grapevines to the area. The region has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters, which is ideal for growing wine grapes. The soil in the region is predominantly granite-based, which imparts unique mineral flavours to the wines.

Appearance: Medium lemon colour.

Nose: It is fruit-forward with a lovely tropical character full of grapefruit, pineapple, melon and mango.

Palate: It is light-bodied with perfectly integrated, refreshing acidity and a slightly oily texture. The balance is exceptional, and the finish is tasty and medium length.

Drink or hold: It is delicious now and for the next 4 years.

Food Pairing: Chicken Teriyaki.
