Thalassitis 2015, Gaia Wines

Date Tasted: 10/2020

It is not a very good example of what Santorini can do or can be. Those five years look a lot, and since I have had much better examples of the same vintage, I do not know how to explain this huge gap. I suspected that maybe the storage conditions were not perfect, but I am unsure if it justifies the result.

Appearance: The colour is deep golden with a lot of amber hues.

Nose: It looks tired, but Santorini is still there with aromas like lemon, smoke, flint and dried orange peels.

Palate: It is dry, with some characteristic aromas of oxidation like toffee, with high acidity, full body and medium aftertaste.

Drink or Hold: Drink it now, not suitable for further ageing.

Food Pairing: Try it with fish soup.
